Pulmonary Vascular Tree Segmentation from Contrast-Enhanced CT Images
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a pulmonary vessel segmentation algorithm, which is fast, fully automatic and robust. It uses a coarse segmentation of the airway tree and a left and right lung labeled volume to restrict a vessel enhancement filter, based on an offset medialness function, to the lungs. We show the application of our algorithm on contrast-enhanced CT images, where we derive a clinical parameter to detect pulmonary hypertension (PH) in patients. Results on a dataset of 24 patients show that quantitative indices derived from the segmentation are applicable to distinguish patients with and without PH. Further work-in-progress results are shown on the VESSEL12 challenge dataset1, which is composed of non-contrast-enhanced scans, where we range in the midfield of participating contestants.

Background: Dynamic contrast enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) provides functional information on the microcirculation in tissues by analyzing the enhancement kinetics which can be used as biomarkers for prostate lesions detection and characterization. Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate spatiotemporal patterns of tumors by extracting semi-quantitative as well as w...
متن کاملComparison of state-of-the-art atlas-based bone segmentation approaches from brain MR images for MR-only radiation planning and PET/MR attenuation correction
Introduction: Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging has emerged as a valuable tool in radiation treatment (RT) planning as well as Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging owing to its superior soft-tissue contrast. Due to the fact that there is no direct transformation from voxel intensity in MR images into electron density, itchr('39')s crucial to generate a pseudo-CT (Computed Tomography) image ...
متن کاملAutomated Segmentation of the Pulmonary Vascular Tree in Spiral CT Angiography for Computerized Detection of Pulmonary Embolism
Spiral CT-Angiography (CTA) is increasingly used for the diagnosis of pulmonary embolism. However, radiologists must view more than 50 images in order to detect thrombi in the arteries and distinguish them from artifacts caused by partial volume, heart motion, etc. In this study, we present a new method for automated segmentation of the pulmonary vascular tree in spiral CTA data sets for 3D vis...
متن کاملAnalysis of arterial sub-trees affected by Pulmonary Emboli
Although Pulmonary Embolism (PE) is one of the most common causes of unexpected death in the U.S., it may also be one of the most preventable. Images acquired from 16-slice Computed Tomography (CT) machines of contrast-injected patients provide sufficient resolution for the localization and analysis of emboli located in segmental and sub-segmental arteries. After a PE is found, it is difficult ...
